According to Sandy Baum, Kathie Little, and Kathleen Payea, total fall enrollment in community colleges increased from 5.7 million in 2000 to 6.2 million in 2005 and 7.1 million in 2009. In 2009 2.9 million students (41% of the total) were enrolled full-time (Baum et. al).
“As stated by Bowen, "... it is striking that in recent years prices at four year public institutions have risen much more rapidly than prices at private institutions" (Bowen, Chingos, and McPherson).
